MLB's automated strike zone is set by player height

Under MLB’s Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System, approved in September 2025 for the 2026 season, the strike zone is defined by each player’s measured height without cleats: the top sits at 53.5 percent of that height and the bottom at 27 percent. The zone is 17 inches wide, matching home plate, and is evaluated as a two-dimensional plane over the middle of the plate.
