Amazon invested $8 billion in Anthropic

Amazon first announced in September 2023 that it would invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic. On November 22, 2024 Amazon announced an additional $4 billion, bringing its total commitment to $8 billion while taking a minority position. The expanded deal named AWS as Anthropic’s primary training partner, with Anthropic using AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips, on top of AWS’s existing role as Anthropic’s primary cloud provider.
