Amazon capped Kindle self-publishing at three new titles a day

In September 2023, alongside a new rule requiring authors to disclose AI-generated content, Amazon lowered the volume limits on its Kindle Direct Publishing platform, capping most accounts at three new titles per day. Amazon framed the move as a defense against abuse, saying it was lowering the limits “to help protect against abuse” even though it had “not seen a spike in our publishing numbers.” The cap was widely understood as a response to spammers using generative AI to mass-produce low-quality e-books and flood the store, a practice that had already prompted complaints from authors whose work was being crowded out or imitated.
