California suspended Cruise's robotaxi permits in 2023

On October 24, 2023, the California Department of Motor Vehicles publicly suspended Cruise LLC’s autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing permits, effective immediately. The DMV’s statement cited determinations that the vehicles “are not safe for the public’s operation” and that the manufacturer “has misrepresented any information related to safety,” following an incident in which a Cruise robotaxi dragged a pedestrian.
