S&P Global paid about $550 million for AI firm Kensho

On March 6, 2018, S&P Global announced an agreement to acquire Kensho Technologies, a provider of artificial intelligence, machine-learning, and data-analytics systems, for approximately $550 million net of cash acquired, paid in a mix of cash and stock. The press release described Kensho’s tools as having a wide following across Wall Street, and the deal was widely reported as one of the largest acquisitions of an AI company by a financial-services firm at the time.
