The support vector machine paper appeared in 1995

Corinna Cortes and Vladimir Vapnik, both at AT&T Bell Labs, published “Support-Vector Networks” in the journal Machine Learning, volume 20, pages 273 to 297, in 1995. The paper introduced the support vector machine in its modern form for non-separable data and became one of the most cited works in machine learning.
