Replit introduced its AI Agent in 2024, integrating autonomous coding capabilities into its cloud-hosted development platform. Unlike standalone coding agents that required local installation, Replit Agent operated within Replit’s existing cloud infrastructure — the agent could provision databases, install packages, run tests, fix errors, and deploy applications to live URLs, all within a single managed environment.
The Agent leveraged Replit’s existing network of 160+ service connectors, allowing it to integrate third-party APIs, databases, and platforms autonomously. It could run unattended for up to 200 continuous minutes per session and, in later versions, spawn sub-agents for parallel task execution.
Replit Agent became a primary growth driver for the platform. By 2026 Replit had grown to 50 million users and a $9 billion valuation, raised through a $400M Series D in March 2026. The platform became a leading example of how cloud-integrated AI coding agents could reach non-traditional developer audiences — entrepreneurs, students, and domain experts who wanted to build software without deep programming knowledge.
