On July 22, 2026, AMD and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership under which Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 series GPUs, with the first gigawatt beginning deployment in the first half of 2027. Anthropic will run AMD Helios rack-scale systems built around Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC “Venice” CPUs, Pensando networking, and the ROCm software stack, building on Anthropic’s existing MI355X deployments.
The deal goes beyond hardware. AMD committed to a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic, and the two companies outlined a multi-year engineering collaboration: Anthropic will use Claude to optimize workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and help accelerate ROCm development, while AMD will adopt Claude broadly across its own engineering and product development teams.
The announcement mirrors the OpenAI-AMD arrangement struck in 2025 and extends Anthropic’s deliberate multi-vendor compute strategy, which already spans Google TPUs, Amazon’s Trainium, and NVIDIA hardware. For AMD, landing a second frontier lab at gigawatt scale is significant validation of Helios as a credible alternative platform for frontier AI infrastructure.
For enterprises, the deal is another signal that the frontier labs are diversifying away from single-supplier dependence, and that GPU competition at the top of the market is finally producing real committed volume rather than benchmark claims.
