On June 9, 2026, Meta announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with Reliance Industries to build an AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. According to Meta’s newsroom post, the facility will have 168 MW of capacity in its first phase, with options to scale further. Meta described it as the company’s first built-to-suit data center capacity in India.
Under the agreement, Reliance Industries will construct the data center and provide end-to-end services including construction, power supply, connectivity, and operations. Meta will lease the capacity to power its core business and AI computing needs, and Meta will cover the energy and water costs. The announcement said the facility will run on renewable energy and use seawater for cooling.
The deal deepens a partnership that dates back several years between Meta and Reliance. It reflects the broader race among large technology companies to secure AI compute capacity in new regions, extending hyperscaler data-center buildout into India. Meta paired the data-center agreement with separate renewable-energy commitments in India totaling nearly 1 GW across projects with clean-energy providers.
