TacticAI used pitch symmetry to multiply its data

Because only about ten corner kicks occur in a Premier League match, DeepMind’s TacticAI faced a shortage of training data. Its geometric deep learning approach exploited the approximate symmetry of the football pitch, generating four reflected versions of each corner situation so the model could learn far more from the limited real examples it had.
