Boston Dynamics put Spot on sale to businesses in 2020

On June 16, 2020, Boston Dynamics launched commercial sales of Spot, its four-legged robot - the first time businesses could simply buy a Boston Dynamics machine. Before that, Spot had been available only through a leasing program, under which “over 150 Spot robots were successfully used” by domestic and international businesses and research facilities. Boston Dynamics pitched Spot for jobs in places where conventional automation struggles, such as construction-site documentation, hazardous-environment monitoring, and inspection inside power plants and factories.
