Databricks Announces Strategic Funding Round at $188 Billion Valuation

On July 16, 2026, Databricks announced a strategic funding round at a $188 billion valuation, led by existing investor Coatue with participation from new and existing investors. The company said it had signed a term sheet and expected the round to close later in the summer of 2026.

Databricks positioned the raise squarely around its enterprise AI strategy, naming three product priorities for the new capital: Unity AI Gateway, a multi-AI governance layer for enterprises running many models and agents; Genie, an AI coworker that turns business data into actionable insights; and Lakebase, a serverless Postgres database designed for AI agents. The company also flagged future AI acquisitions and deeper AI research as uses of the funds, continuing an acquisitive pattern that includes MosaicML in 2023 and Panther earlier in 2026.

The valuation makes Databricks one of the most valuable private technology companies in the world, and the round is a marker of where enterprise AI value is accruing: not only to the frontier model labs, but to the data platform layer where enterprises govern, ground, and deploy AI against their own data.

For executives, the read-through is that the data infrastructure consolidation race is still accelerating - Databricks is raising at nearly triple the valuation of its late-2024 round, on the argument that whoever owns the enterprise data estate owns the deployment surface for AI agents.
